Feeling Beauty: the path is born to allow even the blind to appreciate the beauty of Abruzzo

Updated: Mar 23, 2023

An initiative promoted by the Ente Parco with the collaboration of the Municipality of Isola, the Italian Union associations for the blind and visually impaired and civilian victims of war and the Green School.

'Seeing through your fingertips as you walk in nature', this is the purpose of the path of the soul. The path of the soul, the nature path of the Acquatina spring, the first mountain path equipped for the blind and visually impaired of the Gran Sasso-Laga Park, has been inaugurated in Isola del Gran Sasso. The path starts from the museum of the waters of San Pietro (5 km from Isola del Gran Sasso) to land at the source and is equipped with ground signs, handrails and relief panels to be usable by a blind person independently. An initiative promoted by the Ente Parco with the collaboration of the Municipality of Isola, the Italian Union associations for the blind and visually impaired and civilian victims of war and the Green School. The trail, as part of the initiatives for accessible tourism, allows those who do not have the faculty to see directly, to cross the woods following a safety line to arrive in front of the paretone of the Gran Sasso and ideally have, through the touch, the entire extension of the mountain range with the Brancastello, the Prena and the Monte Camicia and, thanks to the braille language, to understand the richness of the natural heritage of the area. The initiative continues on the path already traced in the past and confirmed by the award ceremony of the Gran Sasso park as ‘the most accessible in Italy’ for the interventions carried out to promote accessibility and usability for people with disabilities and reduced mobility.
