The 5 most exciting and sustainable Parks in Abruzzo

Did you know that Abruzzo is the green region of Europe?

Did you know that Abruzzo is the largest naturalistic area in Europe?

Abruzzo boasts the title of "Green Region of Europe", thanks to the presence of its three national parks (the Abruzzo National Park, the Majella National Park and the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park), at the Sirente – Velino Regional Natural Park, the Torre del Cerrano Marine Protected Area and the thirty-eight protected areas that represent 36.3% of its total area, the highest in Europe. Within the numerous protected areas, scattered not only on the Apennine ridge, but also on the gentle and fertile hills of the hinterland and along the 130 km of coast, more than 75% of the animal and plant species of the European continent are kept and it is home of some rare species such as the golden eagle, the Abruzzo wolf, the Abruzzo chamois and the Marsican bear. In this regard we can speak of a real protectionist system of European interest.

On the northern slope of the Gran Sasso is the Calderone glacier.

According to the US Huffington Post, Abruzzo is the fifth among the 12 best regions in the world to go to live or retire.

According to ISTAT, Abruzzo is one of the Italian regions with the lowest cancer mortality rate, with lower greenhouse gas emissions per inhabitant, with higher consumption of electricity produced from renewable sources and with less inequality in the distribution of income. Furthermore, it is among the Italian regions with the highest number of localities, 24, present in the prestigious club "The most beautiful villages in Italy", which thus place the region in second place in Italy.
